ABOUT MUNI

HAN ZHAN JU STUDIO

The Studio Producing MUNI CARPETS—“Han Zhan Ju”
MUNI’s studio, “Han Zhan Ju” is located in the home of classical Chinese carpets- Gansu Province in northwestern China. The finest quality carpets were produced for the imperial court through a combination of the advanced culture of the western region- represented by the caves of Dunhuang, the finest quality wool cultivated by the upper reaches of the Yellow River, and icy water from the snow-fed streams of the Kiren Mountains that affected the colors formed by the dyes. MUNI CARPETS has revived these traditional methods and techniques of production at their historic region of origin.

TANYANG WOOL

Pile threads used in MUNI CARPETS are exclusively made from the finest quality virgin wool - three month-old Tanyang lambs and autumn wool from the Ningxia region. Such wool was used in the carpets presented to past emperors of China.

HAND SPUN YARN

Pile threads used in MUNI CARPETS are hand-spun to withstand over 100 years of use. Hand-spun yarn, compared to machine-spun, is less prone to damage when twisted, more durable to friction as the fibers cling tightly together, and have better elasticity. Moreover, the unevenness of hand-spun yarn gives the carpets their unique finish.

ORGANIC DYES

Yarns used in MUNI CARPETS are dyed using only traditional, organic dyes. Colors formed by plants such as indigo, sappan wood, Japanese pagoda tree, and common gardenia are natural colors that evoke images of fields, mountains, the ocean and the sky, bringing peace to people’s minds. MUNI CARPETS are absolutely free of chemical substances to ensure safe and comfortable use.
